A Polish Epiphany

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas?
I guess snow is appropriate on January 6 – The Epiphany, the traditional end of the Christmas holiday season for many Christians.

The view from my window today.
Mozart is not used to seeing this white stuff.

Epiphany was a holiday that was cancelled during Communist control in Poland, but it was restored as an official public holiday across the country in 2011. As it a public holiday, most businesses are closed, including grocery stores. Stores are always closed on Sundays, with the exception of a few strategically placed “open Sundays” during the year. Since were out of town the past week and go back to work tomorrow, we had to make specific plans to get needed items for meals.

Fortunately, we got up and to the store early on Friday and were able to avoid the massive crowds that would be there later in the day. Side note: Never go to the grocery store the evening before a holiday! Trust me. We learned that lesson the hard way. It’s like the USA Black Friday from the days before the Internet… on steroids! Never again.

Since everything is closed, my plan is to put on my comfy clothes, drink hot cocoa, and enjoy my final weekend of holiday break (and do my best to ignore the school work that’s waiting for me).

My first book of 2024

Happy 2024!
